Come one, come all, to the fifth post of my blog tour for my debut novel, Keeper! If you’re just joining in, you can find the first post, and more information about the book, here: My First Blog Tour
Today I’ll be discussing National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo.
First of all, what you need to know is that NaNo is AWESOME.
Secondly, NaNo is HARD!
Thirdly, NaNo is AWESOME!!!
Wait, I said that already, didn’t I?
Every November, thousands of writers, or “NaNoItes” or “WriMos” or “NaNos”, get together at nanowrimo.org and write their hearts out until their fingers bleed and their brains are sucked drier than dry, in a crazy, farfetched attempt to write 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days.
Sound insane? That’s because it is!
As you can see, this is no small organization. Anyone can join in, anytime! There are forums, get-togethers, even local groups where you can find and hang out in person with other Wrimos in your area.
Basically, every day for thirty days, you sit down and churn out 1,667 words, even if they suck, until you reach 50,000. Then you qualify as a WINNER and you get bragging rights, super discount codes for lots of stuff, and a cover photo, certificate, digital badges… and probably more that I’m forgetting. Plus, you have the flesh and bones of a novel!
You should try it sometime, if you have any inkling of an idea for a book. It’ll turn your brain to mush, but it’s worth it.
Keeper was written during NaNoWriMo 2014, and the year before that, I made good progress on another novel I’m working on. The year before that, I wrote a supernatural thriller type thing that needs MAJOR dental work (plot hole filling, haha), but could someday be viable. What I’m planning to write this November is a secret – you might find out then, if you follow my blog and/or my Facebook page!
So anyway, that’s NaNoWriMo. Check it out!
And join me back on my blog for the giveaway after the tour ends!
The next post in the blog tour will be up tomorrow on Ellen Silvara Lee’s blog. See you there!
