What are prisons, and the prison system like in your world?

What are the conditions like inside your prisons?

Do you have higher graded ones than others? (For instance, here in England you have Grade A, B, C and D prisons. When you get to Grade D you're very soon going to be released. Grade A is usually high security kept for child murderers and high profile offenders.

Ooh, that's fascinating.

Well, my prisons are all rather dark. The ones on the upper level are less-cared for because the prisoners aren't supremely important. As you get further down, however, the cells are still dark, but in excellent condition and guarded extremely well. This is typically where high-risk experiments are kept. (Yes, they are all live subjects).

In my current setting, prisons are a non-governmental institution, actually – they are run by private business. I'm not exactly sure how all the ramifications of this work out, but it's an interesting system to work with. :D
